Wad Omotenashi Cafe

Tea, Interior Design
Osaka, Japan

Nestled right in the middle of Osaka’s Minami Semba area, this airy and calm café isn’t the place to come for a quick coffee; the highlight is the traditional teas alongside confectionary called wagashi. The tea is served in ceramics of your choice, crafted by Japanese artisans and in the style of a tea ceremony. If you really want to treat yourself, do not pass up the shaved ice in traditional flavours like green tea or brown sugar.

Kobayashi, the owner of Wad gallery and café whose name is derived from wado (a coined word meaning “the Japanese way”), selects tableware, ceramics and artwork by visiting each artist as well as hosting them for exhibitions, while the tea is sourced from farmers in Wazuka, Kyoto, and Makinohara.
